Clemency Granted to Former Iloilo City Mayor

Former mayor of Ilolio City, Jed Patrick Mabilog, received an exceptional commendation from President Bongbong Marcos. The decision removed penalties and restrictions imposed as a result of an administrative case against Mabilog. The Ombudsman’s office suspended him from office on October 23, 2017, for violating Section 3(h) of Republic Act 3019, which prohibits government officials from having financial interests in businesses or transactions that they regulate in an official capacity.

This occurred following a complaint from the former provincial administrator of Ilolio, Manuel Mehorada, who accused Mabilog of misconduct and inappropriate conduct concerning the contract for the transport services bidding. Thanks to this commendation, Mabilog was freed from penalties and again has the right to run for public office.

In the statement of the exceptional commendation from Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, it is noted that the commendation was presented to Mabilog in connection with his long-term commitment to good governance and numerous awards received by Ilolio City during his administration.
